Today we bring you all the latest motoring news, including details of the returning motor show in London, a new initiative to combact drink driving plus news on the new Maserati SUV, the Levante.
We first heard word that the London Motor Show could return early this year, and now the news has been confirmed officially. The Motoring event will make its way to Battersea Park in London beginning from May of next year, with the opening day on the 5th of May running through to the 8th.
It is hoped that the event will once again become as big and popular as some of the most famous events on the yearly calendar, such as Geneva, Frankfurt and the Paris Motor Show.
Attendees will be able to enjoy several activities at the London Motor Show. This will include testing some of the upcoming new model releases, Q & A's with motor manufacturers.
Hybrid and electric vehicles will also be featured prominently from the London show when it returns in May 2016. A price of £13 entry into the event has been announced, but tickets have not yet gone on sale.
Maserati leaked images continue to tease the new Levante suv model today by pictures posted online, which show a sketched version of the new car and the styling direction in which the company will take the vehicle for launch. Maserati will officially reveal the new Levante later this year, with Frankfurt Motor Show in September having a high chance for a reveal.
The sketched design image has revealed similar features as we expected from the companies Ghibli and Quattroporte models. Some of the features carried over include the large front grille and the stretched headlights.
The only thing that is set in stone for the new Levante is the engines that will come along with it. Six engines have been confirmed, with half of them being diesel with a power of 247 bhp ranging to 345bhp. Two V6 twin-turbocharged engines will also come as an option which is joined alongside by the range-topping V8.
Automatic transmission and four-wheel drive have been confirmed for all variations of the Levante.
Drink driving has been an issue for as long as we can remember. Many accidents and fatalities are down to drink driving accidents where drivers are well above the national limit. However, car manufacturers, including Volkswagen, Ford and General Motors, have all been working alongside the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to develop technology that stops the driver from drink driving.
The new system will feature the equipping of a built-in breathalyser to cars which works along with infrared technology and detects how much alcohol is in the drivers' system. If it is more than the national limit, the vehicle's engine will not start.
No confirmation regarding the future of the technology has not been given yet, but car companies and the NHTSA believe the system could be offered within the next five years.
