The Audi A4 Avant takes to the road

Images have been posted online which shows the new Audi A4 Avant model undergoing tests on the road disguised in camouflage. This brand new model is to be the estate variant of the popular A4 offering more interior space, a wider stance and more new gadgets and features. Audi are expected to reveal the new Avant addition later on this year which could point towards a reveal in Frankfurt this September. The German firm will be taking the car to the next level by offering some unique features with the interior and exterior designs receiving a revamp. It was also confirmed that the brands MLB driving platform will be used on the new car aswell as the new standard A4.

What changes do Audi bring along with the A4 Avant?

Audi have confirmed that both turbocharged diesel and petrol engine offerings will be on the table with this new Avant model. 1.4, 1.8 and two litre turbos are the petrol line up with the diesel consisting of 1.6 and two litre setups. However the big range topper is to be a V6 sized three litre engine which is great news as it is offered as a part of both the diesel and petrol ranges. Audi will also launch hybrid versions of the new vehicle but it is uncertain for now whether these will go on sale from the initial launch.

Bodywork wise, the new model is looking similar as you may have expected to that of the standard A4 but it does however benefit from a longer wheel base and a wider stance with it being an estate variant. The other big eye catching feature though are the LED headlights which are the very same to be found on the latest range of TT. Speaking of TT features, the very same digital dashboard will also be found inside of the car too.

What kind of competition does the A4 Avant face?

Estate models are still proving to be a popular choice all around the world even with the success that the suv segment is currently achieving. When we think of some of the latest and greatest in estate cars we have to focus our sights on the likes of the latest Ford Mondeo estate and of course the Volkswagen Passat being one of the most popular. The A4 Avant is certainly set to be a force to be reckoned with but will it have the upper hand on competition such as the Passat and the Mondeo?.
