The new Renault Kadjar on the way this year

Renault will launch their brand new crossover model coming in the form of the new Kadjar later this year. The new model will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show. The Kadjar is due to go on sale in April 2015 in Europe, with it being released in the Chinese market the following year.

The Kadjar will share the same platform as the successful Nissan Qashqai. new Renault Kadjar

The Kadjar will offer a range of engines. The entry option is a 129bhp 1.2 petrol, with diesel options of a 1.5 and 1.6 dCi units. All three engines will offer a 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive option also.

The crossover will have options for a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic gearbox.  It will also feature the Renault R Link 2 infotainment system with voice control, navigation, Bluetooth, and radio.

Like its' Nissan Qashqai stablemate, the Kadjar looks to be priced to offer tremendous value to the consumer. Given the success of the Qashqai, and given it shares so many features, Renault will have high hopes for the Kadjar.

There are event rumours of a sporty RS Kadjar version in the pipeline.

Where did Renault come up with the name Kadjar?

There is a little bit of conjecture regarding the origins of the Kadjar name. Renault claims that the name is an amalgamation of two words. 'Kad' comes from 'quad', and hints towards the four-wheel capability of the vehicle. 'Jar' comes from the french words for agility and jaillir, meaning springing out suddenly.

Further explanations come from the story that the Qajar shahs of Persia used to write the word in the French way, Kadjar. According to legend, the first cars imported to Persia were by Mozaffar ad-Din Shah Qajar, Kind of Persia. He purchased two Renault cars on a trip to Europe.

Who knows? But one story certainly sounds more exotic than the other!

What is the Kadjar's low price we have been talking about?

Kadjar pricing is promised to be keen. The solid and consistent sales of the Qashqai show that the car market loves these vehicles, at the right price.
