Volkswagen have officially stepped up with a new addition to their Golf range which they have this week debut at the Worthersee car festival in Australia. This is just one of many Golf models showcased at the event with the other being the Clubsport Gti model which has been confirmed for production. However the German company also revealed the car we are speaking of right now in the form of the GTE Sport concept model. It makes history for the range by offering a hybrid engine setup for the first time. The vehicle itself is basically the GTE model but with some added parts and accessories thrown in on top. More lightweight materials have also been added for the car which would see performance rates increase. So how does the Golf GTE Sport concept look?.
So looking at the car from the outside, it is certainly a vehicle that you're not going to forget in a hurry. It carries a sleek and agile look with a front grille that spans the length of the front end of the car along with what looks to be LED headlight technology. Creases in the bonnet and alongside both driver and passenger doors would see the concept model travel at some impressive rates. This is outlined by a 174 miles per hour top speed limit set aswell as the 395 brake horse power that it gives out when used in conjunction with the hybrid/petrol mixed engine. Speaking of the engine, Volkswagen confirmed that it was a TSI turbocharged unit carrying 1.6 litres of fuel. This is all paired up to a lithium ion battery which when travelling on electric power alone will travel for thirty one miles before needing a recharge. Two electric motors are also included to run the car efficiently.
Volkswagen have not given any indication as to whether the car is going to go into production. The belief for the time being though is that just some design features and technology will be borrowed from the idea in future vehicle lines. There is always the possibility of production for the car but it seems unlikely at this point in time. If it were to make the production line and keep the same engine and design, this could very well be the most powerful Golf model ever offered. However history shows us that things do often change from the time of a concept to a production model.
